I am going to list all of the features I know of and show some settings and their effect on the frequency response and the phase.
Sausage fattener is just a set of processes acting like a bundle. Does the same thing as EQing compressing and limiting. Or another use of it is getting distortion but you can do that with a lot of things.
-It has a built-in Limiter preventing clipping and levels exceeding 0db.

- I bought it just to turn the Fatness dial and watch the animation. Their Endless Smile is equally good for the same reason. Kidding aside, SF is pretty good.
- It is not better or worse sounding than any other. It has a particular character. Think of it like a guitar pedal (it has a lot of resemblance to a tube screamer). It’s simply an option. It’s cheapness means it has less options. Two knobs, versus more expensive options with many options, baked in EQs, noise modules, multiple algorithms, modeled amps and circuitry, etc…
- I like Sausage Fattener a lot, I’ve been using it for years now. Fast results with very little effort, it only has 3 knobs. It also takes up very little processing power which is always welcome. I think it’s totally worth the price.

You can get the same effect with stock plugins in your DAW. In FL, use maximum, boost the high and low bands and engage thesoftsat/clipping. In Live, use the OTT compressor and the tube distortion plug.
