Toontrack has added a series of new controls to EZ Drummer Free Download which allow you to alter the behavior of your virtual drummer in real-time. You can use ez drummer in reaper, fl studio, ableton and any other daws. It also includes ezdrummer midi map.

Is ezdrummer worth it?
I bought it and absolutely love it. It depends on what sounds and what genres you’re writing for. I bought the progressive drum expansion and it’s awesome, but I find myself using the included kits more often than not. What I actually use more is the tap-2-find feature to quickly find a beat and flesh out a song arrangement. There are a great number of midi beats included, but I got a 4 pack midi expansion on sale and targeted the genres I love: rock, metal, punk and maybe another metal one (off the top of my head). I find myself using it on almost all of my music and its easy enough to customise the sound if you want – you can export the raw drum hits and mix them yourself within your DAW if you can be bothered.
Its a great starting point if you want to get into programming drums for your music. It is fantastic for making demos and learning how to make fully produced tracks that sound like a full band is playing. However, it doesnt give you a ton of control over the mix, for the most part you are stuck with the preset sounds.
The amount of tonal and routing control is “surface level” at best. You can send each “mic” to a different channel in your DAW, which helps with tweaking, but is still not as powerful as it could be. I’ll probably be upgrading to superior drummer soon. I got three or four packs, nothing was “mind-blowing”.
To summarize, I think if your just trying to make demos, and need a songwriting tool it’s fine. If you actually want to produce tracks with authentic acoustic drum sounds; you’ll want something better.
