Xfer Records LFO Tool Free Download is an FX utility plug-in for both Macintosh OS X and Windows. It empowers music producers to create tremolo, auto-pan, trance-gate, side-chain compressor simulation, and dubstep-type wobble effects with minimal effort.
You can use LFOTool for:
-
triggered enveloping – latest version has ENV switch, route MIDI to this for a pattern-triggered envelope on any audio signal. I use this instead of trying to get punch out of compressors or transient shapers, or in place of trying to get gates to do what I want.
-
drawing custom ducking/”sidechain” compression. You could automate a volume clip in Ableton Live but this is incredibly arduous the way Live works – either you’re duplicating automation on the timeline (uggh, no thanks) or you have it in a clip (which is fine if your source track is a solid clip, looping or otherwise, but once you start having regions, well, let’s just say Live could benefit from Aliases like Logic has).
-
custom filter types. LFOTool now has formant filters, and I often use some of the combs or phases to carve separation between elements in a mix that are fighting.
-
beat-synced oscilliscope. Sometimes it is nice to see what is happening on a waveform in 1/4, 1/8, or 1/16 resolution (lets you see swing, decay of a kick drum, etc) and sometimes scuplt simultaneously.
-
crossover processing. It’s certainly nice to be able to e.g. “sidechain comp” the low freqs of a bassline without affecting the top. This is possible in Live without LFOTool I suppose (with abusing the Multiband comp on several instances in a rack to freq split), but I’ve never been bothered to try that and verify phase coherence (and even then, you’d probably not want to get the LFO with an auto-pan plugin, so back to the automation hell).
-
Pattern Gate FX – This is something I did alot on the XFERSCD01 (almost all the CymbalFX have a ton of LFOTool’s going on). Hold down shift on LFOTool graph, draw step 16ths, apply this to filter, make another graph or LFOTool instance do some slow panning, etc… just a quick way to give rhythm and space to something.
