I just bought refx nexus 3 and I think it is well worth the price. Plenty of usable sounds and the sequences are very educational. You can mute layers and use parts of them just like loops. Very low CPU and small memory footprint. You can run numerous instances and layer sounds. Great GUI and I love the fact that you hear the sound when you click on it. Very fast to use.
I like it. Def the better option as the other options are a bit pricey and to be honest you don’t need a TON of packs to start with and you can build up packs over time a few are just 30 and some are on sale now. i did end up investing in the FULL nexus Hollywood bundle……..later on not cheap but memory-friendly cinematic options that still sound great. it comes with a bunch of free expansions you can download too.
Nexus is pretty limited in it’s use as it is sample-based. You can get the sounds through serum but the issue is that it takes time. If you want to quickly get the sound you are thinking about you can probably find it in the huge library of great sounds as it is organized and cleanly refined. For later tweaking you usually dont keep the nexus sounds as it is easier to refine the sound in serum or sylenth1 or whatever.
I’d say that it is good for efficiently getting your ideas in the program (in the same way that Kickstart is a much more limited but faster way of sidechaining). You never need it but it is so nice to have.
